Project Overview

Nutrition is very tightly correlated to oral healthcare and patients often lack an understanding of this connection. The goal of this project was to identify nutritional needs related to the oral health of the patients we serve and to research and present recommendations to address those oral healthcare needs.

Outcome

Eight newsletters were researched and completed on the following topics: “Water and your Oral Health”; “Foods that Discolor and Foods that Naturally Whiten”; “Healthy Food Swaps”; “7 Tips for Keeping your Teeth Healthy during the Holidays”; “Dental ‘Superfoods’”; “The Truth About Your Favorite Drinks”; “Non-Dairy Alternatives to Obtain Calcium and Vitamin D”; and “Xylitol”. Multiple students indicated that they found the newsletters to contain valuable information about nutrition and oral health that they would be able to share with patients. In addition, students indicated that the newsletters were helpful and found them to contain concise information useful to both them and their patients.
