Description

Beyond Literacy is a community organization that not only provides education to adults wishing to obtain their high school equivalency or become more proficient in English, but also offers classes to adults who want to improve workplace or technology skills. Beyond Literacy was formerly known as Community Learning Center and Center for Literacy, which recently merged to form this new organization.

Project Overview

The goal of the project was to create useful health resources and presentations for Beyond Literacy to use and distribute after the program's end.

Outcome

Over the course of this internship, I have learned how important access to information is. A lot of students wanted to get care but did not have enough information on multilingual clinics to do so. Students also expressed interest in pursuing health careers but did not know where to start in that journey. Simply doing research and compiling this information for students at Beyond Literacy helps them receive better care or begin their pursuit of a new career. I really appreciated the ability to interact with and answer questions from students during our presentations. Although we spent a lot of time educating others, I feel like I learned a lot as well.
