Introduction

to compare the outcomes of periodontal osseous surgery therapy on probing depth in the posterior and anterior regions (teeth) based on the root anatomy

Methods

: One hundred-fifty- five PDMpatients(707teeth),eighty-seven PDFP patients(308teeth) with severe chronic periodontitis were enrolled in this retrospective study. Patients based on the number and anatomy of their roots were equally allocated into six groups: maxillary incisor, premolars, molars and mandible incisors, premolars and molars. After osseous surgery all patients had been under periodic maintenance at 3- to 24-month intervals. Probing depth, mobility and recession were recorded at the time of surgery and 3- to 24 month after osseous surgery.

Results

In total, adults aged between 27 to 76 years were examined. All teeth groups exhibited statistically significant improvement in probing depth at first visit compared to baseline. A statistically significant difference in probing depth reduction was found in posterior maxilla and mandible groups.

Conclusion

Osseous surgery yielded greater probing depth reduction in molar (teeth) region compared to incisor and premolar teeth 24 months after surgical periodontal therapy.
